Ocean Viking Rescues 129 People in Mediterranean Amid Rising Fatalities
The Ocean Viking, operated by SOS Méditerranée, rescued 129 individuals from a distressed fishing boat in the Ionian Sea, including 43 children. The ship is en route to port in Ravenna, Italy, loaded with a total of 163 rescued people. Since 2016, the organization has saved over 40,000 lives in the Mediterranean, while more than 2,140 have died or gone missing in attempts to cross to Europe this year, according to the International Organization for Migration.
