Online Gambling Regulation Fails to Protect Vulnerable Players, Report Reveals
A recent evaluation by the Scientific Research and Documentation Centre (WODC) has found that the Dutch online gambling law, enacted three years ago, has not adequately protected at-risk players, particularly young adults. Mystery shopper tactics revealed that most gambling companies failed to provide necessary support for addiction, often directing inquiries to promotional offers instead. This has led to concerns about the effectiveness of the oversight agency, the Kansspelautoriteit, in enforcing compliance. Critics, including lawmakers, have called for stricter regulations and restrictions on gambling advertisements, as current measures are deemed insufficient to prevent harm.
