Venâncio Mondlane, the opposition leader in Mozambique, has returned from exile amidst ongoing political strife following contested elections that sparked over two months of protests. As he arrived, police used tear gas against his supporters, and Mondlane reaffirmed his rejection of the election results. More than 100 deaths have been reported due to security forces’ actions since the elections. Mondlane expressed a willingness to negotiate with the ruling FRELIMO party to end the crisis despite ongoing accusations of electoral fraud.
