Orca Tahlequah Mourns Another Calf on Washington Coast
Orca Tahlequah, known for carrying her dead calf in 2018, has been observed pushing a deceased calf’s carcass again off the coast of Washington state. The Center for Whale Research reported this behavior, which is not uncommon but is particularly prolonged in Tahlequah’s case. The research center expressed deep sorrow over the loss, noting that two of Tahlequah’s four calves have died young. Orcas are considered endangered in both Canada and the United States due to overfishing impacting their food supply.
