Panama President Urges Continued US Funding for Migrant Repatriation
Panama’s President José Raúl Mulino has urged elected US President Donald Trump to continue funding for the repatriation of migrants crossing the dangerous Darién jungle from Colombia. During a press conference, Mulino highlighted a bilateral agreement with the Biden administration and expressed hope it would be maintained under Trump. Supported by a $6 million grant, Panama has successfully repatriated over 1,000 migrants, although challenges remain, particularly regarding migrants from Venezuela, whose repatriation is complicated by access restrictions imposed due to governmental tensions.
