Tai and Naiyahmi Yasharahyalah have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms after their severely malnourished son, Abiyah, was found dead in their garden. The couple, evicted from their home in March 2022, was convicted of causing the child’s death due to neglect. The court heard that they had kept Abiyah’s body for eight days before conducting a ritualistic burial. Experts indicated that malnutrition significantly contributed to the child’s death.
