Planned Flood Prevention Measures in Central Macedonia
The Central Macedonia Region plans interventions at four flood-prone areas in Thessaloniki, funded by the regional government. Paris Billias, the Deputy Regional Governor, highlighted the need for a collaborative approach, involving local municipalities and the water utility company. A significant flood prevention project on the Ludias River, budgeted at €45 million, is set to commence, aiming to restore historical riverbeds and improve flood defenses. Billias also discussed the ongoing challenges of environmental management and emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration for successful implementation.
