Poland Begins EU Council Presidency Focused on Security and Migration

Poland officially launched its six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union with a gala event in Warsaw, attended by officials including Prime Minister Donald Tusk and European Council President António Costa. Key priorities include strengthening European defense, supporting Ukraine, and addressing migration challenges. Tusk termed Poland a ‘guardian of solidarity,’ while Costa emphasized the need for lasting peace in Ukraine. The event was marred by Hungary’s absence amidst a diplomatic spat, following Hungary’s granting of asylum to a Polish opposition member facing charges.
