A recent initiative by the police in Overijssel and Gelderland, where nearly 1,500 notorious traffic offenders received warning letters, has shown promising results. Over half of the recipients have not been stopped again for violations, suggesting that the letters are a deterrent. Police officer Ben Steinmeijer, who developed the program, emphasizes the importance of raising awareness about traffic behavior and hopes to foster dialogue among road users. The scheme may soon be adopted in more Dutch provinces as authorities evaluate its effectiveness.
