Potential Lifting of Alcohol Ban in English Football Stadiums
After 40 years, English professional football may soon allow the consumption of alcohol on stadium terraces. A pilot project will begin on January 19, 2024, testing this policy at select clubs in the Women’s Championship, including Bristol City and Newcastle United. The current ban, which aims to combat hooliganism, has been in place since 1985. While alcohol is available in other areas of the stadium, it has been prohibited on the terraces during matches.
