French President Emmanuel Macron has arrived in Mayotte, an overseas territory in the Indian Ocean, which was severely impacted by Hurricane Chido on December 14. Accompanied by approximately twenty medical professionals, he took a helicopter tour of the island to assess the damage. The hurricane has claimed at least 31 lives, left over 1,500 injured, and caused extensive destruction, particularly in impoverished neighborhoods. Authorities are concerned that the death toll could rise significantly as many people remain unaccounted for. Relief efforts are underway as aid shipments head to the area.
