Problems Arise for Switzerland’s Drone Procurement from Israel
Switzerland faces new challenges regarding six reconnaissance drones ordered from Israel, particularly concerning the ‘Detect and Avoid’ system that allows the drones to autonomously navigate obstacles. A parliamentary financial delegation has expressed doubts about the programming capabilities of the Swiss company Ruag, citing significant risks and potential cost overruns. Concerns extend to operational limitations and the slow development of these drones, originally approved in 2015, which may not achieve full functionality until 2029. The delegation plans to increase oversight of defense procurement processes.
