A former Greek official has indicated that a deal to return the Parthenon Sculptures, also known as the Elgin Marbles, to Greece is nearing completion. Prof. Irene Stamatoudi stated that recent negotiations have progressed, involving discussions between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and UK opposition leader Sir Keir Starmer. While the return of these antiquities has been a long-standing diplomatic issue, both sides are exploring potential arrangements, although the UK government has maintained its legal stance against permanent removal.
