PSNI Acknowledges Investigation Failures in Katie Simpson Murder Case

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has admitted significant shortcomings in the investigation of Katie Simpson’s murder, initially treated as suicide. Assistant Chief Constable Davy Beck apologized, citing a lack of thoroughness that allowed officers to prematurely conclude she took her own life. Her murder was confirmed only after a revised inquiry. The investigation’s failings led to disciplinary action against six officers. Beck emphasized the PSNI’s commitment to improving procedures and ensuring better investigations into violence against women following the critical ombudsman report.
