Public Consultation on Greece’s Revised Road Traffic Code Aimed at Enhancing Road Safety
Greece has initiated a public consultation process for a new punitive framework of its Road Traffic Code, emphasizing road safety and the protection of human life. Key changes include a focus on proportional penalties for traffic violations, particularly severe ones that pose a significant accident risk. The consultation seeks to improve compliance among drivers and simplify the payment of fines. Notably, the maximum speed limit in urban areas is set to decrease from 50 km/h to 30 km/h, aiming to reduce traffic accidents. Vulnerable road users will also receive additional safety considerations.
