Record Turtle Nesting Achieved at Kyparissia Bay
The ARCHELON Society for the Protection of Sea Turtles announced a record achievement with 6,700 turtle nests documented this year at Kyparissia Bay, Greece. This nesting area, stretching 9.5 kilometers between the Arkadikos and Neda rivers, has seen a significant increase in nesting activity since 2006. The average number of nests during the years 2006-2024 has nearly quadrupled compared to the previous era, with this year’s count surpassing 4,000 nests for the first time. ARCHELON has been monitoring and protecting these nests for 41 years, indicating ongoing positive trends for the loggerhead turtle population.
