Researchers Discover World’s Largest Coral in the South Pacific
A team of researchers from Pristine Seas has uncovered a colossal coral in the South Pacific, measuring 34 meters long and 32 meters wide, making it the largest known coral to date. Located near the Three Sisters Islands in the Solomon Islands, this massive stone coral, Pavona clavus, has thrived for over 300 years. It serves as a vital habitat for diverse marine life. Experts stress the importance of protecting such ecosystems amid rising threats from climate change, as only 8.4% of the world’s oceans are currently safeguarded.
