Residents of Agios Ioannis in Chania have expressed strong opposition to a municipal proposal to create a temporary parking lot on part of the former Markopoulo Military Camp. The Chania Citizens’ Initiative for the Camp claims that there was no prior consultation or substantiation for this decision and is calling for public involvement in the upcoming city council meeting. The group demands that the entire 52-acre site be designated as urban green space and that studies for a park’s creation be prioritized by the municipality.
