Return of Ancient Coins from Turkey to Greece Marks Significant Cultural Milestone
In a ceremony held at the Numismatic Museum, 1,055 ancient coins illegally attempted to be imported into Greece from Turkey in 2019 were returned. The handover, attended by Greek Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni and Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, aligns with international agreements to prevent illicit trafficking of cultural goods. Mendoni emphasized the importance of repatriating cultural heritage and highlighted ongoing collaborative efforts between Greece and Turkey in combatting antiquities trafficking.
