Rising Poverty Forces Food Banks in Germany to Ration Supplies

In Germany, around 1.6 million people depend on food banks, which are now facing capacity constraints due to an increasing number of needy individuals. According to the Tafel-Dachverband, about 60% of these food banks are reducing their food distribution, with many resorting to temporary stoppages or waitlists. The rise in demand follows the onset of the war in Ukraine, which has seen a 50% increase in clients. The association’s chairman, Andreas Steppuhn, is urging the government to take serious action against poverty, calling for financial measures to support vulnerable populations.
