Rodrigue Petitot Detained After Court Decision in Martinique
Rodrigue Petitot, leader of the anti-high cost of living movement in Martinique, has been placed in provisional detention after a court hearing in Fort-de-France on December 5. Following an incident at the home of the island’s prefect on November 11, the court decided he would remain in custody until his trial on January 21. Petitot’s lawyers questioned the motives behind the judicial decision, which follows a previous guilty verdict for intimidation against local mayors.
