Romania and Bulgaria to Join EU Schengen Zone in 2025
Romania and Bulgaria have officially been approved to join the EU’s Schengen zone, allowing for passport-free travel starting January 1, 2025. This decision, celebrated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, signifies a long-awaited acceptance for the nearly 25 million citizens of both countries. However, border bureaucracy remains a concern for truckers, as Hungary plans to continue inspecting trucks for at least six more months, and temporary border controls have been implemented in response to fears of increased illegal migration across Europe.
