Russian Cargo Ship Sinks in Mediterranean Following Suspected Terrorist Attack
The Ursa Major cargo ship, managed by the state-controlled Russian company Oboronlogistika, sank in the Mediterranean Sea between Spain and Algeria after suffering three powerful explosions. The company described the incident as a ‘terrorist attack’ and reported that the blasts created a hole in the ship’s side and filled the engine room with caustic smoke, complicating rescue efforts. Fourteen crew members were rescued, but two remain missing. The ship, one of Russia’s largest cargo vessels, was en route to Vladivostok.
