Russian Pediatrician Sentenced for Anti-War Remarks About Military
A Moscow pediatrician, Nadezhda Bouyanova, has been sentenced to 5.5 years in a penal colony for allegedly making negative comments about Russian soldiers during a visit to a clinic. The case was initiated by the mother of a 7-year-old boy, whose father died fighting in Ukraine. More than 1,000 individuals have faced criminal charges for anti-war statements in Russia, as the government intensifies crackdowns on dissent since the start of the Ukrainian conflict. Bouyanova, who maintains her innocence, has garnered support from fellow medical professionals, with a petition for her release gaining over 6,000 signatures.
