Saudi Arabia’s Aramco Successfully Exports Lithium from Oil Brine
Saudi Arabia has successfully extracted lithium from brine samples from the national oil giant Aramco’s resources, with plans to initiate a commercial pilot program for direct extraction soon. The initiative is led by Lithium Infinity, known as Lihitech, in collaboration with Aramco and the mining company Ma’aden. Lithium, essential for electric vehicle batteries and electronic devices, is being targeted amid rising global demand to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The Deputy Minister Khaled Al-Mudaifer noted that while extraction costs are currently high, the project could become commercially viable if lithium prices increase.
