The incident began when a patrol boat spotted a suspicious speedboat speeding away from Greek shores towards Turkey. After a dangerous chase, the operator fell overboard. Meanwhile, coast guard officials discovered 29 refugees who had arrived by a different speedboat and reported being abandoned by the foreign operator.
