Serbia’s Security Services Accused of Employing NoviSpy Spyware Against Journalists and Activists
Opposition activists and investigative journalists in Serbia have reported that their phones were infected with a previously unknown spyware called NoviSpy during encounters with security services or while in detention. Amnesty International claims that Serbian authorities illegally target journalists and activists as part of a broader surveillance campaign. The spyware is said to enable the retrieval of sensitive personal data and remote activation of phone microphones and cameras. The report highlights the risks posed by mobile forensic tools from Cellebrite, which are utilized by Serbian authorities to install such malware.
