Severe Oil Spill from Russian Tankers in Kerch Strait During Storm

Two Russian oil tankers, the Volgoneft 212 and Volgoneft 239, were severely damaged by a storm in the Kerch Strait, leading to significant oil spills. Approximately 4,900 tons of fuel oil from the Volgoneft 212 and 4,300 tons from the Volgoneft 239 were on board. One crew member lost his life, while the rest were rescued. The Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a response team to minimize the environmental impact of this incident, which could be one of the largest ecological disasters in recent years.
