Severe Storms and Temperature Swings Hit Alps Amid Föhn Conditions

Recent weather patterns have brought severe storms and dramatic temperature changes to the Alps, with notable strong winds from the Föhn effect. On the mountain Piz Martegnas, wind speeds reached 150 km/h, and many regions experienced gusts exceeding 100 km/h. In stark contrast, temperatures swung from as low as -31.1 degrees Celsius in La Brévine to highs of over 15 degrees. Meanwhile, the southern region of Tessin welcomed its first rain of 2025, alleviating some of the dryness experienced over previous months.
