Germany and Finland have expressed deep concern following the severing of an undersea telecommunications cable that links the two countries. This 1,170km cable, laid in 2015, is under investigation amidst escalating tensions with Russia, with officials highlighting that the security of Europe is threatened not only by Russia’s military actions against Ukraine but also by hybrid warfare tactics. The incident coincides with previous concerns about potential sabotage in the Baltic Sea affecting pipelines.
