Significant Archaeological Discovery of Byzantine Emperor Portrait
Anastasia Koumousi, an archaeologist and Byzantinologist, announced the discovery of a unique portrait of the last Byzantine Emperor, Constantine XI Palaiologos, during restoration work at the Old Monastery of Taxiarches in Aigialeia. This finding, described as nationally significant, features a mature man adorned with imperial insignia. Koumousi recounted her emotional experience upon discovering the fresco, connecting Constantine to the monastery through his brothers, who were its benefactors.
