Since a court ruling last month imposed daily fines for exceeding 2,000 residents, the center has been successful in keeping numbers below that threshold. Recently, nearby emergency shelters have also closed as fewer asylum seekers enter the country. New emergency facilities are being established, including two container ships capable of housing 1,000 individuals, aimed at easing the pressure on Ter Apel.
