Significant Reduction in Surgeries at Agios Nikolaos Hospital Due to Anesthesia Staff Shortage

The Agios Nikolaos Hospital has experienced a sharp decline in surgeries this year, performing only 1,090 procedures compared to over 2,000 annually before 2015. The president of the workers’ association, Georgios Manousakis, stated that this downfall is due to a lack of anesthetists and nursing staff. Currently, surgeries are limited to one operating room, occasionally just four surgical tables a week are available, severely impacting emergency procedures.
