Sinn Féin Accuses Irish Government of Breaking Voting Promise to Diaspora
Sinn Féin has criticized the Irish Government for failing to fulfill a pledge made by former taoiseach Enda Kenny in 2016 regarding voting rights for the Irish diaspora in presidential elections. The party’s US support group, Friends of Sinn Féin, has initiated an advertising campaign urging Irish Americans to pressure visiting Government ministers to uphold commitments to plan unity referendums as outlined in the Good Friday Agreement.
