Smartwatches May Assist in Smoking Cessation, New Study Reveals

A groundbreaking study by researchers at the University of Bristol finds that smartwatches equipped with motion sensor software can aid individuals in quitting smoking. The application detects hand movements associated with smoking and sends timely notifications to encourage cessation. In a trial with 18 participants aged 18 to 70, 66% expressed satisfaction with the app, and 61% found the messages helpful. While the study shows promise, participants noted that message frequency and content could be improved. Future research will focus on long-term effectiveness and varied messaging strategies.
