SNCF Unions Call for Unlimited Strike Over Freight Restructuring
The SNCF unions, comprising CGT, Unsa, Sud-Rail, and CDFT Cheminots, have announced plans for an unlimited and renewable strike starting December 11, following a lack of concrete responses during a recent mediation meeting. The protests are aimed at the dismantling of Fret SNCF amid plans to open the sector to competition. A one-day strike is also scheduled for November 21 as tensions rise over the impending transformation of Fret SNCF into two separate entities by January 2025, part of a governmental plan to prevent liquidation of the freight company, which employs around 5,000 workers.
