Social Democrats Advocate for Wealth Tax and Affordable Housing Initiatives in New Manifesto
Cian O’Callaghan, deputy leader of the Social Democrats, has announced the party’s new manifesto, emphasizing the incompatibility of tax cuts with investment in public services. The plan includes a proposed wealth tax on high-value assets and aims to construct 50,000 affordable homes over five years. The Social Democrats also plan to enhance disability funding, reform childcare fees, and push for the implementation of Sláintecare in health services. Additionally, the party seeks to end no-fault evictions and introduce a temporary rent freeze.
