South Korean Interim President Han Duck-soo Impeached Amid Crisis
On December 27, South Korean lawmakers voted unanimously to impeach interim President Han Duck-soo, accusing him of actively participating in an insurrection linked to a failed attempt by his predecessor to impose martial law. With all 192 voting in favor, the Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik announced the decision, leading to an uproar among opposition members. Han Duck-soo is now suspended pending a Constitutional Court ruling on the impeachment, which must occur within six months. Lawmakers had previously voted for his removal on December 14.
