South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol Faces Impeachment Challenges Amid Protests

In a strategic move, almost all members of South Korea’s ruling People Power Party, led by President Yoon Suk Yeol, left the parliamentary session on December 7 to block an opposition motion aimed at impeaching him. With 300 total members in the National Assembly, at least 200 votes are needed for impeachment. The ruling party holds 108 seats against the 192 held by opposition parties. Thousands of demonstrators rallied outside parliament demanding Yoon’s ousting following his failed attempt to impose martial law.
