Spain Approves Monkeypox Vaccine for High-Risk Contacts Amid Limited Doses

Spain’s Public Health Commission has authorized monkeypox vaccinations for close contacts of confirmed cases, focusing on high-risk individuals due to limited vaccine availability. Unlike the extensive COVID-19 vaccination campaign, a broader rollout is currently not planned, though future recommendations may adapt based on outbreak developments and vaccine stock. Health Minister Carolina Darias highlighted that the first shipment of 200 doses of the Imvanex vaccine, which uses a modified form of the smallpox virus, is expected soon, following a joint procurement with the EU.
