Strict Penalties Implemented for Fuel Smuggling in Greece

Authorities in Greece have established severe penalties for fuel stations involved in smuggling and tax evasion. A new joint ministerial decision outlines fines up to €150,000, license revocations, and two-year closures for various offenses, including operating without monitoring systems. Additionally, published lists of offenders will be available on the tax agency’s website for two years. This initiative responds to ongoing fuel-related fraud, which costs consumers significantly each year, with evidence suggesting 24% of deliveries may be deficient.
