Study Links Processed Foods to Chronic Inflammation and Colon Cancer

Researchers from the University of South Florida and the Moffitt Cancer Center have found a potential link between diets dominated by highly processed foods and unhealthy oils and chronic inflammation, which may lead to colon cancer. Their study, published in ‘Gut,’ revealed that processed foods disrupt lipid balance in the immune system, causing inflammation. The findings emphasize the need for a reevaluation of Western dietary components and suggest a new approach to cancer treatment focusing on anti-inflammatory, whole foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids.
