Successful Bison Reintroduction Transforms Romanian Ecosystem and Supports Biodiversity
In the Carpathian foothills of southern Romania, bison have been successfully reintroduced, with their population now reaching approximately 200 individuals. Once extinct in the wild, these animals are contributing to biodiversity by creating new habitats through their foraging habits. However, their presence has caused challenges for local farmers, prompting them to adapt their practices. While bison have become a tourist attraction, project leaders emphasize the importance of maintaining their wild instincts to facilitate future migrations across Europe.
