Surge in Child Trafficking Reported by UN, Highlighting Global Crisis

A recent UN report reveals a significant increase in global child trafficking, with around 25,000 children victimized in 2022 alone. This marks a 25% rise compared to 2019, exacerbated by ongoing conflicts and poverty. The report, compiled by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), identifies nearly 440 trafficking routes and notes that organized crime syndicates are responsible for most cases, affecting regions including wealthy nations in Western and Southern Europe and North America. UNODC expert Angela Me highlights the growing complexity of trafficking operations.
