Surge in Fraudulent Prescriptions Plagues French Healthcare System
The rise of sophisticated counterfeit prescriptions is significantly impacting France’s healthcare, with a reported 36% increase in related drug trafficking last year. Young individuals, often recruited via Telegram, are exploiting these fraudulent prescriptions to obtain and resell expensive medications. The French health insurance system, Assurance maladie, is combatting this issue by launching a database to track these prescriptions and introducing secure prescription measures. In 2023, fraudulent activities have already led to over 11.5 million euros in reported losses.
