A surge in online shopping from Chinese platforms like Temu, Shein, and Aliexpress has led to nearly one billion Swiss francs in sales, making up 7% of the nation’s total online commerce. Yet, the Swiss Federal Customs Office warns that many goods ordered by consumers may be illegal. Recent inspections revealed about 700 packages containing prohibited items, mainly medications and unsafe products. Shoppers often unknowingly purchase these items, packed alongside legal goods. Authorities stress that ignorance is no excuse, as buyers could face fines and penalties under Swiss law.
