Swiss Budget 2025: Increased Military Spending with Cuts to International Cooperation
The Swiss National Council’s Finance Commission approved increased military spending in the 2025 budget. To finance this, it plans to cut approximately 250 million Swiss francs annually from international cooperation efforts. Philipp Matthias Bregy, president of the center-right Mitte faction, affirmed the party’s commitment to prioritize military funding, while remaining open to adjusting the exact cut to international assistance. The commission has yet to discuss potential revenue increases, such as a higher value-added tax, but plans to address it in December discussions.
