In May 2024, the Valais Cantonal Police apprehended a 51-year-old Swiss man for illegally using a metal detector to search for archaeological artifacts without permission. A significant collection, including Bronze Age jewelry and tools, was seized. Another man, aged 49, was also arrested for similar activities. The police emphasized the importance of protecting cultural heritage, stating that any search for historical objects requires official permission.
