Switzerland Faces Push for Easier Naturalization Laws

A political movement in Switzerland is calling for easier naturalization laws as the committee behind the initiative ‘For a Modern Citizenship (Democracy Initiative)’ has submitted over 104,000 certified signatures. They argue that more than a quarter of the resident population is currently excluded from political rights, which they deem undemocratic. The initiative proposes that individuals should be eligible for citizenship after five years of legal residency, regardless of their residency permit status.
