Switzerland to Assume OSCE Chairmanship in 2026

Switzerland will take over the presidency of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in 2026, as announced by current chair Ian Borg, the Foreign Minister of Malta. This marks the third time Switzerland has held the position, previously doing so in 1996 and 2014. The decision comes amidst challenging geopolitical circumstances, including the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has limited the OSCE’s operational effectiveness. The Swiss government emphasizes the importance of dialogue and cooperation to address security challenges.
